Game Day!

Hi Everyone!! It's game day here in Packer country and while this would normally be a day full of fun it's also the 15th anniversary of the Sept 11 attacks. It's a somber day mixed in with the fun.  But this is also how the world works. For every day of joy is someone's day of sorrow.  I wanted to support my team today but also show my patriotism and reflect on the sorrow on 9/11

I used Zoya Song and Giovanni for my blue and green and OPI Wocka Wocka for my red. Some Dashica SdP and FUN stamping along with my custom Packer plate with Mundo White and Yellow
Not sure if anyone is watching the Packer Jaguars game is pretty intense!  My sister and brother in law are in Florida for the game I'm sure they are having a great time
Sort of missing my square nails today so you could see all of the Go Pack Go down at the tip but I'll live with it LOL!

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you all have a great day!

Family Fun Day!

Hi Everyone! Happy Saturday!  Today is my mom's birthday so we'll be getting together later to have some dinner and play some games.  It's a bit challenging celebrating my mom's birthday because on my mom's 18th birthday her mother died.  I never met my Grandma Shaw but I know she was deeply loved by my mother and her death especially on her birthday was a crushing blow.

My mom's sister, Lynette, or as we love to call her Aunt Net, came down from Menomonee Falls last night and is spending the weekend with her.  Trust me when these two gals get together there is a lot of jaw jacking and definitely some fun times.

Before the get together I'm going over to my sister's house and we are doing a DIY spa day along with my niece.  These are the times I love!  My family hardly ever asks me to do their nails but today we are doing pedi's for sure and maybe even a mani will get snuck in.

I've been kind of lacking in the nail art department lately.  Not really sure why.  I never not have my nails painted but sometimes I don't have any art on them or sometimes I have the same art on them for almost a week *GASP*

I have been very dedicated to losing weight so I am walking quite a bit these days and that walking may just get in the way of me wanting to sit down and paint my nails and then do some stamping.  I'm also reading a lot more than I used to which makes me INSANELY happy but it seems like more and more little things are taking over my nail art life.  I'm hoping to find that perfect balance out there that's for sure!

This is a mani I did the other day because I just needed something fun and quick.  Gradient stamping always seems to do the trick when you want something that looks like it was complex when really it isn't

My base is the pretty Pahlish Divination from the Bespoke line, I am a huge of pastel polishes with the chrome flakies in them.  I wish someone would do them in every single pastel color imaginable!
I did some gradient stamping with Mundo de Unas Pastel Blue, Holland Blue and Purple with FUN 15
I like doing just a couple of accent nails over a non cream base so you can see both the art and then the beauty of the base color on it's own
And I'm not going to lie it's quicker so then I have more time to walk and read LOL!

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you all have a fantastic day!

Elvis4ever

Hi Everyone

Today is the 39th anniversary of Elvis' death.  If you've been reading my blog for the past few years you know I am a HUGE Elvis fan.  I have been since I was 7 years old.  I never thought that at 14 years of age my only dream of seeing him in concert would be forever dimmed but my dream died on August 16, 1977

People I went to grade school and high school with will still come up to me and ask me if I still like Elvis--and of course I tell them yes.  Once you become and Elvis fan you are a fan for life.

Here's my in memory mani for this August 16, 2016
I truly love Elvis.  I could listen to him 24/7 until the day I die
The one and only King of Rock & Roll
Gone way too soon, but his music lives on!

Missing In Action!

Hi Everyone!  Looks like I've been missing in action for a bit.  July and August are some pretty depressing months for me having lost my sister in July and my dad in August so I tend to do the whole bury my head in the sand in the summer.  It's kind of odd how when you're sad you just don't feel like doing anything at all.  I always read.  Read, read, read and read actually but getting some art on my nails not so much.

So let me fill you in on what's been going on the past few weeks.  Well I am not officially addicted to the Fitbit!  Yes it's true!  I can't believe that when I first started walking I couldn't even go 2000 steps a day.  When I first started I actually could not walk a lot every day because I was just too worn out.  Now I am regularly walking at least 10000 steps a day and I've even made it to 15000 a couple of times.  My "off" days are not less then 10000.  And it really is showing.  I am down 39lbs and can't believe how much better I feel.  More energy and less pain in my back and joints.

I spent the day with my mom on July 15th--the day my beautiful sister, Lisa, died.  We had a really nice day sharing Lisa memories, going to lunch and then going to see Ghost Busters on the big screen.  Yep I ate a bucket of popcorn but instead of eating a lot of really bad for me food that day all I ate was the popcorn.  As always it was delicious.  Mom and I both thought the movie was great.  To all the naysayers out there the women only cast reboot was funny and fabulous.

This year's work outing was going to see the Kenosha Kingfisher's baseball team.  I sort of felt bad because almost all my coworkers had to drive up from Illinois but for me the baseball diamond is two blocks away LOL. I work a cute top and jeans--YES my mom bought me a cute pair of jean capris when we were together so I wore them to the game--and did this dry brush stroke mani to match the top.

When I first did this I thought I sucked!
But after I got the top on I couldn't believe how close all the colors were LOL
I like the dry brush stroke method because you can get a really unique look without a lot of effort
I should have had the forethought to take pics of this mani with the top but NOPE not smart enough to do that LOL

Thanks so much for stopping by--I hope you all have a fantastic day!

Destination Duo Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer and 6 Harts Polish

Hi Everyone Happy Wednesday!  Recently I was asked if I would review the July Destination Duo for Blue Eyed Girl and 6 Harts.  I was sent both polishes for my honest and unbiased review. When I saw the inspiration pic I knew this would be some very unique to summer colors.  Typically we think bright bright bright and neon for summer but there's a lot of summer to be had and depending on where you live and what you like to do Summer isn't always bright.

Sometimes Summer is a weekend getaway Up North where everything smells like pine and the scenery is full of rock formations and trails that lead you on a grand adventure.  Give me an Up North camping getaway any day!

My first swatches for you are from 6 Harts Polish.  Her contribution to the July Destination Duo is called Rocks Of Ages.  It is a lovely medium grey chock full of micro color shifting microflakes as well as green and dark grey microflakes. The flakes are very subtle in the polish so that you get a hint of a various shifts and colors.  The true beauty is the perfect grey creme.  I just adore grey nail polish don't you?
I had no issues with the application other than like all indies for me it tended to be slightly thicker than mainstream polishes.  Most likely due to all the microflakes scattered throughout
This is definitely a cool grey which is perfect for my skin tone
I love the subtle flakes throughout this gorgeous grey.
Truly gorgeous and the name is perfect for this color!
This is the perfect color for a respite from all the bright neons out there right now and will be fantastic come Fall

This is the picture Courtney from 6 Harts shared with me from which she drew her inspiration
Look at how cool this rock formation is right along the road.  I bet kids everywhere had this as a landmark when they were going Up North for a week of vacation somewhere!

Next up is Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer keeping along with the beauty of nature she's done a very lovely pine green jelly like finish packed with red/gold/green shifting shimmer and tons and tons of gold flakies and there is a fantastic bit of blue micro holo bits in here as well her polish name is Pining For The Pass
This is a very unique color
The color shifting red/gold/green shimmer is quite lovely but hard for me to capture indoors
Check out all that's going on in this polish, the gold flakies are really cool

Here's a shade shot to see how many there are
I think this is going to be an awesome color for Fall and especially Halloween!
The name fits right in with the picture!
You can see a bit of shrinkage at the tips on me as I do always wear at least two coats of Seche Vite over flakie heavy polish to smooth them out like glass.  That's how I prefer mine to look.
I do really love the little hint of blue sparkle you get with the micro holo flakies.  And speaking of sparkle!! You also get a little bag of glitter with this duo!!
lots of green holo glitters in here with various sizes of green and gold glitter, some chunky white but small bar glitter and vampy red/burgundy.  It's not intended for use in polish but that just means most likely it bleeds in clear.  An excellent way around this when you want to use it, sponge it on with a sponge or makeup applicator!

Both of these polishes applied easily for me, I would simply say again as with most indies for me they seem to be a bit thicker than mainstream polishes but I believe it's because of all the ultrachrome and gold flakies present.  I didn't have any issues at all with application and both polishes took two coats.  I put two coat of Seche Vite Top Coat over both as again I like my flakie polishes to look as smooth as glass.

The July Destination Duo is limited.  Each store will have only 15 sets.  These are available for purchase on July 7, 2016.

Let Freedom Ring!

Happy 4th of July!  Today I'm spending my freedom by doing nothing other than watching some Discovery ID and reading.  I'm trying to not overdo it today exercise wise.  This is supposed to be my "off" today with no exercise but I might be addicted as it feels like cheating to not do anything.  So instead of aiming for 10k steps today I'm trying for only 5k.

I did get a 4th of July mani done though.  I love how it turned out.  I always try to do something a little different and I think this one worked perfectly
My base colors are Dior Blue Label and Massai two of my favorite blue and reds I own
I stamped with Mundo white with FUN and UC plates
Simple but perfect!

I hope you all have a happy but safe 4th of July!

As close to tropical as I get

Hey Everyone!  Happy Saturday to you!  I spent my entire morning running around grocery shopping a little over 3 hours 3 stores and my freaking pedometer decided on me!  The jerk!  After all that time walking and loading up the cart and unloading the cart it said I walked 113 steps WHAT IN THE WORLD?!  Clearly I need something better than my cheap ass free pedometer LOL

But that's all behind me now.  I am taking it easy for the rest of the day.  I walked all week last week and will probably take a walk later in the early evening but for now I'm relaxing and reading.  I found a new to me author I just love so I'm spending the day reading a couple of her books. Elle Casey is her name and even though she writes in the dreaded 1st person I just adore her books!

This is the mani I'm sporting today.  I got a lot of compliments on at all 3 grocery stores. I'm not sure by the kid at DQ might have been checking them out too.  I had to indulge in a small iced coffee after all that shopping!

I tried out all of my new Girly Bits stamping polishes on this mani  Ker-Minty Frog Here, Pardon My Periwinkle, Coral Reef and Silly Daffodilly

I stamped with one of my MoYou Tropical plates over my base of OPI's How Great Is Your Dane
A good brown creme is SO underrated!!! I just love this OPI it's so smooth and yummy
I know I keep saying I'm going to get better lighting set up at my new apartment but really one of these days I am going to get better lighting!

I really love these Girly Bits stamping colors they are going to be great for some summer stamping for sure!
I hope you guys are having a great Saturday!  Thanks for stopping by!
